PRE-COLUMBIAN SOUND POTTERY - RATTLES
August 21-25, 2024 during Matres Festival 2024 - PRIMITIVISM an immersion in Prehispanic Cultures with artist Karina Garrett.
Join us at Matres International Festival of Women's Ceramics for an extraordinary experience with Argentine artist specializing in pre-Hispanic ceramics, Karina Garrett. In addition to her solo exhibition Karina, together with her husband Guillermo Lorenti, will conduct this beautiful workshop.
Karina Garrett's workshop aims to explore the ritual associated with the celebration of natural cycles and the link between ceramics, femininity and earth fertility in the ancestral cultures of the Americas. Participants will have the opportunity to create a ceramic rattle inspired by the archaeological patterns of the Chimú, Mochica, Inca, Tlatilco, Guanacaste and Nicoya cultures, using ancient techniques of working, decorating and firing.
This theoretical and practical course offers a total of 22 hours of immersion in pre-Hispanic pottery, with 14 hours devoted to art practice and 8 hours to construction and firing in a traditional wood-fired kiln, which participants will have the opportunity to build together.
