ANGELA MARIA JOHANNA WAGNER - Rhinocerus

ANGELA MARIA JOHANNA WAGNER - Wiesenbach Baden, Germany

FIRST PRIZE

Rhinocerus - Fragment, 2023

Hand-molded from mixed clay with 60% refractory. Fired in wood-fired kiln and organic material with high silicate content.

On the one hand, my work reflects the elemental force of these animals, which are mythical animals of power. By giving them a form, my power and energy are also reflected in the object.

On the other hand, my work expresses the fact that these power animals are also vulnerable and threatened with extinction and that we, as humanity, have a duty to ensure that this planet remains a worthy place for future generations to inhabit.

1st PRIZE to Angela Maria Johanna Wagner - Germany, with the work Rhinozerus - Fragment, for the expressive power conveyed by the animal symbolizing the primordial, also communicated through the reference to cave graffiti, the color choices and the self-made raw material with silicates. The wood-firing technique with organic material is appreciable.

Her work deals with the issue of vulnerability and denounces the danger of extinction of some animal species, contrary to our duty to ensure biodiversity on Earth for future generations.
