A ceramist and archaeologist, she lives in Catamarca, Argentina. There she created the space CASA DE YOKAVIL that functions as a ceramics workshop and residence. Her ceramic passion is aimed at creating, teaching and researching pre-Hispanic ceramic techniques. The artist has held exhibitions, lectures and workshops in South America, North America and Europe. In 2019, she received First Prize in the National Arts Fund of Argentina's Handicraft Competition.
In addition to her solo exhibition, Karina, together with her husband Guillermo Lorenti, held a beautiful workshop that led the participating people toward an exploration of the ritual of celebrating natural cycles and the link between pottery, femininity, and earth fertility in the ancestral cultures of the Americas.
Below are some pictures of the PRECOLOMBIAN SOUND CERAMICS - SONAGLI workshop and the construction of the traditional wood-firing kiln held during the Matres Festival 2024 PRIMITIVISM. Participants made a ceramic rattle inspired by the archaeological patterns of the Chimú, Mochica, Inca, Tlatilco, Guanacaste, and Nicoya cultures, using ancient techniques of working, decorating, and firing. It was a total immersion course in pre-Hispanic pottery, with hours devoted to artistic practice and hours to construction and traditional wood-fired firing, made for the occasion together with the students.
