JURY REPORT
Quilla Woman Moon, 2024
Natural clay. Pre-Columbian construction technique, burnished with stones.
polished. Fire cooking at 950°C, smoking.
QUILLA, sacred female image for the ancestral cultures of South America. A powerful and wise woman representing the Moon, she regulates the cycle of nature along with PACHAMAMA (Mother Earth) and INTI (Father Sun).
The images I create are made with clays from the area where I live, using indigenous ceramic techniques that are more than 2,000 years old. Through these images I try to re-express what has been forgotten and recover the memory and knowledge of the original cultures.
Jury report for Karina Garrett - Argentina with the work Quilla for the great cultural and ethnographic value of his work.
