Primitivism in contemporary ceramics: dialogues between archaeology and innovation

Representations from the two honored guest countries Iran and Cuba - Prof. KOUROSH GOLNARI President of the National Association of Iranian Sculptors and SURISDAY REYES MARTÍNEZ Director of the Museo Nacional de la Cerámica Contemporánea Cubana in Havana

As a top event in the program of this recently concluded VII Edition of the Matres International Festival of Women's Ceramics - Primitivism, the event held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the National Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano "The Etruscans of the Frontier" in the presence of Director SERENA DE CARO and in collaboration with the Regional Directorate National Museums Campania of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano is definitely worth mentioning.

Indeed, great interest and participation was registered by the panel discussion themed Primitivism in contemporary ceramics: dialogues between archaeology and innovation.

A notable theoretical contribution and intercultural exchange was made by the interventions of Prof. KOUROSH GOLNARI President of the National Association of Iranian Sculptors and Dr. SURISDAY REYES MARTÍNEZ Director of the Museo Nacional de la Cerámica Contemporánea Cubana in Havana, who were present for this edition of the Matres Festival as representatives of the two guest of honor countries IRAN and CUBA. An opportunity to highlight, in the spirit of sharing and internationalization of the festival, the historical and cultural richness of these two countries, despite the challenges arising from embargoes. We believe that their participation represented a significant contribution to creating a cultural and artistic bridge between nations, promoting mutual understanding through artistic expression. Their commitment to the art of ceramics is invaluable to this initiative.

The organization of the Matres International Women's Ceramics Festival would also like to thank the speakers ELENA AGOSTI Director of the Villa Lattes Museum and Historian of Modern and Contemporary Ceramics, MARIA GRAZIA GARGIULO Ceramics Art Historian and Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, GUMSUN KIM Advisor Member and Foreign Liaison of Kwca, and moderator NURYE DONATONI.

Next, still on the thread of dialogues between archaeology and innovation was then held the opening and presentation of the temporary installation Keramikòs, earth and fire / 108 names of the Goddess, a tribute to archaeologist and anthropologist Marija Gimbutas by ELEONORA PANICONI, with a presentation by SURISDAY REYES MARTÍNEZ.
