Open the program

FOR FIVE DAYS THE CITIES OF CAVA DE' TIRRENI AND VIETRI SUL MARE AND RELATED TOWNS WILL TALK AND LIVE ABOUT CERAMICS. A PATH THAT COMBINES CULTURE, TRADITION AND INTERACTION WITH THE TERRITORY. THE SKILLS OF WOMEN IN THE PRACTICE OF CERAMIC ART WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED, WITHIN THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S ART SCENE. THIS YEAR MATRES WILL HAVE TWO GUEST OF HONOR COUNTRIES CUBA AND IRAN. A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY WITH WHICH WE INTEND TO CELEBRATE THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL RICHNESS OF THE TWO COUNTRIES, DESPITE THE CHALLENGES ARISING FROM EMBARGOES. WE BELIEVE THAT THEIR PARTICIPATION CAN CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY TO CREATING A CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC BRIDGE BETWEEN NATIONS, PROMOTING MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING THROUGH ARTISTIC EXPRESSION. THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE ART OF CERAMICS IS INVALUABLE TO THIS INITIATIVE. WE HAVE PROVIDED A SPACE DEDICATED TO THEM WITH NUMEROUS INITIATIVES TO OFFER GUESTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN THE BEAUTY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP OF THEIR BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS AND DEMONSTRATIONS. IN ADDITION, WE WANT TO FACILITATE THE SHARING OF STORIES AND TRADITIONS RELATED TO THE CERAMICS OF THE COUNTRIES THEY REPRESENT. WE ARE AWARE OF THE CHALLENGES THAT IRAN AND CUBA FACE DUE TO EMBARGOES, BUT WE BELIEVE THAT THROUGH CULTURE AND ART WE CAN OVERCOME BARRIERS AND PROMOTE CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE. THEIR PARTICIPATION WILL HELP MAKE OUR FESTIVAL AN EXTRAORDINARY MOMENT OF CROSS-CULTURAL SHARING AND UNDERSTANDING IN THE DIRECTION OF CULTURAL AND SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH THE MATERIAL OF CERAMICS. AN 'OCCASION WHERE THE STORIES OF EACH WOMAN AND THEIR ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE CONVERGE AND CONFRONT EACH OTHER, WHERE TO DRAW PROPOSALS TO MAKE KNOWN THE POTENTIAL OF THE FEMALE WORLD. A WORLD THAT WOMEN HAVE ALWAYS PROTECTED, PROTECTED AND SUPPORTED WITH THEIR VISIONS OF CARE. A MOMENT, THAT OF THE FESTIVAL, TO MANIFEST THE FEMALE APTITUDE TO EXPRESS VALUES, PROJECTS, PERSONALITIES AND PATHS RELATED TO CONTEMPORANEITY, IN ART, CULTURE AND CRAFTS. TO PROMOTE AND CONSOLIDATE THE "WOMEN'S CERAMICS" PROJECT, HIGHLIGHTING THE CREATIVITY OF AN ALL-FEMALE ART, SYMBOL AND EXPRESSION OF A CULTURE ROOTED IN THE REGION AND EXPORTED ALL OVER THE WORLD. IN RECENT YEARS, THE MATRES FESTIVAL HAS BECOME THE BENCHMARK FOR WOMEN'S CERAMICS AND THE INTERNATIONAL CREATIVE COMMUNITY.

THE MATRES FESTIVAL HAS A PACKED PROGRAM OF EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS, CONFERENCES, WORKSHOPS, SOCIAL PURPOSES, ENVIRONMENT, GUIDED TOURS, DEMONSTRATIONS, PERFORMANCES, OUTDOOR KILNS, PRIMITIVE COOKING, AND MARKETS. THE THEME OF THIS EDITION IS PRIMITIVISM
A RETURN TO THE ORIGINS, TO THE 'AESTHETIC IDEALIZATION THAT EMULATES OR ASPIRES TO RECREATE A PRIMORDIAL EXPERIENCE WHERE, THE SEARCH FOR THE TRUE DIMENSION OF THE HUMAN BEING AND SOCIETY STARTS FROM THE RECALL OF ARCHAIC CULTURES AND DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM THEM. A RETURN TO THE PAST THAT JUDGES THE SPIRIT OF UNION OF THE MANY CULTURAL AND IDEOLOGICAL CONTAMINATIONS INCREASINGLY FREQUENT IN OUR CONTEMPORARY IN THE SIGN OF INCLUSION AND POSITIVE INTEGRATION. PRIMITIVISM AS AN ECO-SUSTAINABLE VISION THAT EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF RETURNING TO A SIMPLER LIFESTYLE IN HARMONY WITH NATURE THAT CAN REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT. HOWEVER, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO BALANCE THIS PERSPECTIVE WITH MODERN CHALLENGES AND ENSURE AN INCLUSIVE APPROACH THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE DIVERSE NEEDS AND POSSIBILITIES OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY.
IN THE EXHIBITION AND THROUGHOUT THE FESTIVAL PROGRAM WILL REVOLVE AROUND THE THEMES GREEN- EVOLUTION, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY. THE MATRES IS AIMED AT EVERYONE, EXPERTS IN THE FIELD AND VISITORS, BUT PRIMARILY AT WOMEN WHO WISH TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES IN THE AREAS OF WORK AND CREATIVITY, TO STIMULATE AND FOSTER THEIR POTENTIAL FOR FULFILLMENT AND TURN THEIR DREAMS INTO PROJECTS, AND EXTENDS TO BROADER CULTURAL PROPOSALS THAT TURN FROM THE PROTECTION AND RESPECT OF THE SELF AND OTHERS TO THE PROTECTION AND RESPECT OF THE ENVIRONMENT. THE PURPOSE OF THE EVENT STEMS FROM THE NEED FOR PLANETARY EVOLUTION THAT INCLUDES HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS TO RESPECT THE PLANET AND THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND US.

THE COUNTRIES INVOLVED IN THIS EDITION ARE ITALY, BELGIUM, FRANCE, AUSTRIA, SPAIN, GREECE, IRELAND, IRELAND, SWEDEN, CROATIA, LITHUANIA, GERMANY, MALTA, CZECH REPUBLIC, UNITED KINGDOM, RUSSIA, CUBA, ISRAEL, HOLLAND, TURKEY, SWITZERLAND, POLAND, TUNISIA, ALGERIA, IRAN, IRAQ, JAPAN, SINGAPORE, ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, CHILE, SOUTH KOREA, NORTH AMERICA, THAILAND, INDIA, SOUTH AFRICA.

From August 21 to 25, a unique event will be held at Mara D'Arienzo's Bottega Hub, in collaboration with the City of Vietri sul Mare.
APS Pandora Artiste Ceramiste, together with the Fondazione San Giuseppe dei Nudi and under the guidance of architect Mauro Improta, presents "Symbolum - Under the sky of Naples." This ambitious project involves the creation of a large art installation that will symbolically reconstruct in contemporary style the dome of the Church of San Giuseppe dei Nudi in Naples, with painted ceramics that recover the tradition of the majolica mantle, typical of southern Italy and the Mediterranean. The artists/participants in the Matres will devote themselves to decorating and reworking the specially prepared shingles to initiate the symbolic reconstruction of the majolica mantle (embrici/mattonelle) (more in-depth news on our website follows)
